Hello, my name is Courtnie Williams and I'm currently an 11th grader at Fort Lauderdale High School. I come from very southern family and now army veteran parents. Though I was born and raised in Broward County, Florida, most of my family is from Virginia, Georgia, and Mississippi. This causes use to take frequent trips around the south, which is pretty interesting. One of the most interesting things about me is, I am a cheerleader and has done cheerleading since I could remember. I've done little-league cheerleading, competitive cheerleading, and currently cheerleading for my high school. All the years I've dedicated time and energy to cheering, it is something I love to do and will never get tired off. Another interesting fact about me is, I enjoy learning and experiencing new things, which is one of the reasons why I wanted to take this class. There are actually more than one reasons why I wanted to take this class, one being the many good things I heard about it. From my freshmen year, I knew a handful of students that all took the media studies course and they seemed to enjoy it. I could tell they were actually learning and the work giving was helpful, fun projects. I also heard good things about the teachers, the teachers were good at explaining the objectives and making everything concise, which is a personally favorite for me. Another reasoning, was my own interest. I always had hopes of diving into the world of cameras and the behind-the-scenes of media, whether that being photography or film. I took the digital media class last year and generally enjoyed it so I thought tackling media studies was the best step-up for me. I hope this class strengthens my interest in mass media, best case scenario I decided to pursue this field educationally or as a career. I don't necessarily know what the media industry would entail, considering I haven't done much research about the field. But, one specific thing I would love the experience is being part of the process of creating a film, mostly behind the camera work. I also like the editing process. I wish I was more fluent at digital editing or design but that is just another skill the future will unravel. Well this is a small portion of my life and hopefully you got a somewhat proper introduction of myself. I am super excited for what I will learn this year.
